Does each story beat change a character’s available choices?
Does each story beat change a character’s available choices?
A four-step working method
- Give the character a concrete want and a cost for pursuing it.
- Link each beat to a choice and visible consequence.
- Mark world exposition that changes no decision for revision.
- Compare the ending choice with the opening choice and explain the change.
Common errors to avoid
- Treating allocated minutes as evidence that a story is emotionally effective.
- Treating an empty worksheet field as a confirmed zero or a verified fact. Mark missing information explicitly.
- Sharing a working brief as a professional conclusion. Keep assumptions and unanswered questions attached.
